The AWC Kiosks Updated: 03.03.24
The kiosks are the small form-factor computers in the foyer and outside of the Student Worship Center.
There is a mixture of models in production. Each runs Windows 11.
As with several areas of technology used in our church it is a confusing waste of time to detail the steps for operating, troubleshooting, or performing some processes. That is because 1) we have several versions of Windows in use and each is different in where in the menus the relevant applications are located, and how those applications are used. So we would need three versions (at this time) and the user would need to be able to identify which specific version they are working with.
Consequently, the following documentation focuses more on the result than the process.
Each Sunday morning beginning at ~08:00 the kiosks are powered up and prepared for that mornings use.
I usually walk in loops around to each machine and do the following as needed;
There are a few problems that commonly occur each Sunday morning that need to be fixed before people start to come in. These include
Make sure that the correct printer is set as the default printer.
If a label fails to print, check the Window's print queue and delete any queued print jobs.
Make sure the cables are correctly connected.
Restart the printer by unplugging it's power and plugging it back in using the connection on the back of the printer.
Often the CheckIns program will launch with the wrong event. In this case you need to open the configuration section by clicking on the sprocket at the bottom right of the CheckIns window. There select 'Sunday Morning Worship' from the Events pull-down list and then click the save button.
Modes. The two kiosks at the Welcome Center should be set for adding new people while all of the others should be set for checking in.
Check the roller that moves the blank label through the printer and out the front end. On occasion a portion of a label will stick to the roller or some other part keeping subsequent labels from printing. Make sure to remove all of the label material. This will often require pulling the front cover off to get to the roller area. Make sure that this cover is put back on flush with the body of the printer.
When a person comes for the first time, they will not be in the Check-ins database, which is necessary for printing name tags.
In this section the process for adding a person or family to the Checkins database.
To add people, you need to be in the 'manual' screen. The '' screen is used by most of the kiosks for people to print name tags. The two kiosks at the Welcome Hub are usually set to the 'Manual' screen.
How to switch to the 'Monitor' screen you would first open the Checkins program, and then click on the 'configuration' icon at the bottom right of the screen (it looks like a cog). This will prompt you for a password (6951188)
