Approach to Priorities

Note that CIA refers to security in general and its three concerns specifically, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability.

Each event or situation will have one characteristic from each column. These have to be balanced and evaluated to the time of occurrence to determine the order in which things should be addressed.


A thing can be important, but not urgent. It can be Urgent but not important. And so on…


Documentation is very Important, but not urgent. So anything that comes along with is urgent, would likely need to be addressed before Documentation. Capacity planning is important, but a request for staff support is more urgent and should be addressed first. Staff training is important, but taking an unsolicited call from a vendor is less urgent, so the training should be addressed before returning the vendor’s call.
